The Patrick Whalen Interview

Patrick Whalen, one of the four officers fired by Philadelphia Police Kommissar Charles Ramsey, gave an interview to the local CBS affiliate last night. Strangely enough, it was his first interview since the taped arrest, because the Kommissar dismissed him before hearing his side of the story.

No interview. No hearing. No due process.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― A Philadelphia Police officer fired after his involvement in a videotaped beating is talking for the first time about losing his job.

The officer said reality is just now setting in that his dream of being a police officer has come to an abrupt end.

Oh, by the way, despite what you see and read on the cop-hating websites, Pat is not some moronic thug:

Whalen spent 14 months in Iraq and Afghanistan serving his country as a marine. He won a Purple Heart when his Humvee was blown up and killed the marine sitting next to him. (H/T - CBS3)

I give this kid a lot of credit. He could have told the media to go frak themselves - that's what I'd do - but he's not that type of person. Everyone in my building liked him, because what you saw was what you got. He's just a good kid.

There are some cops out there that don't deserve to wear the badge - Larry Smart is a prime example: he still hasn't been disciplined for his actions, by the way - but Pat Whalen is not one of them. The Philadelphia Police Department is worse off without him.

Hopefully, after watching the video and placing a face to the name, more people won't have the guts to call Pat Whalen a monster.
