John Lewis: The lead suspect in the Cassidy assassination.
Hold on to your hats, kids; we can finally mention some new details. They'll astonish you:
Energized investigators stepped up their hunt tonight for 21-year-old John Lewis, the "armed and dangerous" suspect wanted in the slaying of Officer Chuck Cassidy.
Police said Lewis' mother, Lynn Dyches, is a corrections officer for the Philadelphia Prison System. They believe he used his mother's personal 9mm semiautomatic to shoot Cassidy on Wednesday during an armed robbery at a Dunkin' Donuts; Cassidy died the next day. Police have not recovered the weapon.
Lewis is also believed to have at least one other gun: Cassidy's service pistol, taken from the officer's side after he fell, wounded.
Of course, Lewis' family think he's an innocent man. What a shock:
The suspect's grandmother, Glover Henry, called Lewis "a teddy bear." She said she last spoke by telephone with her grandson on Friday. She said she did not know at that time that he had any connection to Cassidy's shooting
She and other relatives said Lewis is the only son of Lynn Dyches, 37, a corrections officer, and has two younger sisters. Lewis is not married and has a 3-month-old daughter, Natasha. He is currently taking GED classes.
Glover Henry, 57, a retired city highway department road crew chief, said she does not believe her grandson is a killer.
"I don't know what would make him do something like that, what would set him off. I don't think my baby did this," she said.
She pleaded for him to call her.
"John ... find a way to contact me so I can get your some help. I don't want you to get hurt. I love you, we all love you."
That's so sweet. Hey John, about 7,000 Philadelphia Police Officers don't believe any of this garbage. You're a cop-killing scumbag, and in my opinion, you should die in the most violent way possible.
We're going to catch you soon enough, and if I were you, I wouldn't resist when it happens.
