WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Police were searching Wednesday for a prisoner who overpowered a guard, took his weapon and escaped from a hospital in suburban Washington, a state police spokesman said.Sources say Polk is off the hospital grounds, and may be in the area of Prince George's County. This guy has no problem using force, so if you see this man, notify police immediately.
About 8 a.m., a prisoner who had been taken for treatment to Laurel Regional Hospital in Maryland took the weapon of an officer from the Jessup Correctional Institution and fired it in an apparent attempt to free himself from his shackles, Maryland State Police spokesman Sgt. Arthur Betts told CNN.
Police identified the escaped prisoner as Kelvin Polk, 45, who was serving life plus 40 years at the Jessup Correctional Institution for kidnapping, carjacking and robbery. (H/T - CNN)
