Especially if your ice hockey team is 3-0, like ours is.
Last night, we faced off (pun intended) against Philly Phoenix, the league’s last place team. Almost immediately, we found out why they were in the cellar: despite having a few good skaters and some decent playmakers, they played how I look: brutally ugly.
Long story short: Philly Phoenix was New Orleans, and we were Katrina. We won the game by a score of 10-1.
The Badger once again was stellar between the pipes, although even he admitted he didn’t see many shots. Credit that to Fish and Ron, who were shutting down the Phoenix offensive rushes. Also credit the games funniest play to Fish, who was playing on sharpened skates for the first time in a year! While attempting an outlet pass to yours truly, he slipped and fell to the ice. While lying there, he got off the pass with an outstretched arm, before recovering and sheepishly looking as Badger, who just laughed.
Vinnie also stepped up last night, scoring two and assisting on one goal. Of course, he gave me the shaft on one of his goals, too. We were both in front of the net, when our center passed us the puck. We both got our sticks down, and shot it toward the goal. It went in, but Vinnie’s stick was in front of mine. He got credit for the goal, but I gave his stick a little push. Bastard. He got his though, since he had the team’s only penalty.
As for the Fat Man, I played pretty well. I scored a goal, added an assist, and was a +3 defensively. The goal was nothing special, but I was proud of the assist. It was a backhand pass right on the tape of the center, who beat the goalie easily. Assists = coolness.
Oh, and to give you an idea of what kind of people I call my friends, at the bar after the game, Vinnie and Badger spied three lovely ladies across the room. Vinnie then said, “Maybe they’ll send us some drinks.” A second later, he looked at me, and said, “Well, they’ll probably send me and Badger drinks, and send the fat guy some wings.” For the record, I am said “fat guy.” Nice.
The win keeps us undefeated at 3-0. Our next game is tomorrow at 9:20pm.
