Philadelphia Remembers Chuck

This does the heart good. Apparently, some people still care about the police in this town.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Ever since the entire city of Philadelphia mourned as one the loss of Police Officer Chuck Cassidy citizens have been eager to give something back to the family of a man who gave his life protecting the city for 25 years.

New Look Carwash tried to wash away some of the Cassidy family's tears on Saturday. Two dollars from every wash went to the Cassidy family.

"We just felt so upset when we heard about the Cassidy family," Thunderbird Lanes Elaine Brumberg said.

The Cassidy family even got the chance to smile at Thunderbird Lanes in Northeast Philadelphia. The bowling alley's owners donated every penny of Saturday's bowling proceeds to the officer's family.

"The first thing he said was can we do a fundraiser and I said you betcha. Not only that, we were able to get this entire event done in 12 days," Brumberg said.

"We cannot say often enough how appreciative we are of what this city, this community has done and is doing for our family," Officer Cassidy's Brother in Law Tony Conti said.

And Joker's Bar and Grill showed their gratitude with their own fundraiser for Officer Cassidy's family. To the people attending all the fundraisers and the city of Philadelphia, Officer Chuck Cassidy will always be remembered as friend.
