New Jersey Votes To Eliminate Death Penalty

New Jersey Governor John Corzine: Idiot.
(CNN) -- New Jersey lawmakers have voted to abolish the death penalty in the state, sending the governor a bill he has already said he will sign. The measure will make New Jersey the first state in more than 40 years to outlaw capital punishment.

The bill will make life in prison the most severe penalty for convicted murderers in the state, including the eight men currently on the state's death row. New Jersey has not put anyone to death since 1963, according to the Death Penalty Information Center. (H/T - CNN.com)
I wonder what penalty Corzine would demand if someone in his family was brutally murdered? Many people claim that the death penalty is not a deterrent. Of course it isn't. And do you know why? Because it is never meted out!

New Jersey is quickly becoming California-East, and this legislation is just one of many that boggle the mind. Amazingly, SYLG's researchers have uncovered even more head-scratching laws that you may not have heard about. To wit . . .

New Jersey's Top Ten Idiotic Laws

10. Bruce Springsteen will always be considered "talented."
9. Mobsters must dump bodies in the Pinelands before dawn.
8. The New Jersey Nets will always suck.
7. It is considered racist to take a "nap" at Rutgers university.
6. Christine Whitman will be nicknamed "The Jersey Devil."
5. The state may only smell good on Christmas Day.
4. At least 50 dead fish must adorn every beach at all times.
3. All money must be surrendered at the Newark city limit.
2. The USS New Jersey will be referred to as a museum, not a battleship.

And New Jersey's number one idiotic law is . . .

1. When asked what town you are from, you may only reply with said town's Turnpike exit.
