NYPD Officers Shun Mayor At Funeral

NYPD Police Officer Rafael Ramos was laid to rest yesterday, after being murdered by a filthy animal on the streets of Brooklyn. New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio spoke at Ramos' funeral, a week or so after he appeared at a protest where other animals chanted, "What do we want? Dead cops! When do we want them? Now!"

The NYPD has since publicly shunned their "leader,"

Wearing white gloves and with black tape across their badges, they came to attend the funeral of New York City police officer Rafael “Ralph” Ramos, 40, who was gunned down with his partner, Wenjian Liu, 32, exactly one week before in Brooklyn as the pair sat in their squad car.

Hundreds of officers watching the services outside Christ Tabernacle Church turned their backs on the screens when Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke. The mayor has been heavily criticized by New York police union officials, accused of causing a mood of mistrust that they say contributed to the killings of Ramos and Liu. Tensions between the mayor and police had already grown in recent months after de Blasio said he was worried about how police might treat his son, who is biracial.

The sad fact is many, not all, big-city mayors hold their police department in contempt. That is certainly the case in Philadelphia, where Mayor Michael Nutter treats police officers like chattel. While I believe police officers should respect de Blasio's office, they should not respect the man.

  1. De Blasio had a lot of nerve even showing up.

  2. Rick - I think he felt he had to attend, and he wanted to do so only for appearances' sake.

  3. I read that the officer's family invited the mayor to speak. And the bat rastard showed up 2 hours late.

  5. Beats the hell-outa-me. The only way I could wrap my single brain cell around it was thinking they were emulating what John Paul II did when he met with & forgave the crazy person that tried to kill him.

  6. Ellen - I have no idea. I always told the missus if I am killed in the line of duty, she WILL NOT agree to a state funeral. Those things are nothing more than political theater.

MelP - The family is way more forgiving than I would be. De Blasio is not a friend of police officers. He is their enemy.

  7. The family showed a lot of class by inviting him. I wish he would have shown even a tiny bit by politely declining.

  9. If Mayor DeBlasshole's feelings were hurt, he can always find solace in the arms of his buddy Al Charlatan. People judge you by the company you keep, and Hizzoner's BFF is the King of Cop-haters.

  10. John - Don't forget, our "president" is also a BFF of Sharpton.
