Philly To Hold Support The Police Rally

A northeast Philadelphia neighborhood is holding a Support the Police Rally tonight. Call me a cynic, but this will not end well.

The organizers of the “1st Annual Mayfair Rally To Support Our Police” in the Philadelphia area decided that it was time to show Philly police officers that they are appreciated. According to the invitation, posted at Facebook, the event is not designed to be a political statement, but will serve simply to “show our support to our police officers in the 15th district.”

One of the organizers, Jay Giel, told Broadside News that they expected 50-100 people, but were “extremely surprised” after their invitation was accepted by over a thousand people. “The outpouring has been amazing,” he said. The goal, Giel explained, is to “shed a positive light” on the police department. The organizers are now “expecting between 1500-2000 people.”

The rally will be held at the intersection of Cottman and Frankford Avenues in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia on Friday, December 18 from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

Don't get me wrong; I think this is a great idea, but there will be plenty of anti-cop people there to ruin the evening.

  1. I agree. Great idea in theory but with the current climate gripping much of this country so many things could go wrong. Hoping for the best.

  6. Hi. Im Donald Garvey. The person who organized this rally. Two points...1) Who the hell is Jay Giel? And 2) Our rally was 100% peaceful. Your predictions that "this would not end well" was well....completely wrong.

    Stay Positive

  7. I'm glad it was a peaceful event, being PPD officer and all. As far as Jay Geil, I have no idea who he is. I was simply quoting the article, since at the time I wrote this, Philly.com had no story in it.
