Philadelphia Is Now Officially "Pro-Choice"

This one is guaranteed to make your head explode:
Already this year, more than 50 resolutions have sailed through City Council, including those that honored Miss Philadelphia, chastised Don Imus, and designated "Safe Kids Week." With rare exception, these purely symbolic gestures are approved by unanimous voice vote.

That wasn't the case yesterday, as Council proclaimed Philadelphia a "Pro-Choice City," which supports "women's reproductive rights and freedom" and defends "the right to choose a legal and safe abortion as a final but critical option for women."

The resolution was sponsored by Blondell Reynolds Brown, who considers herself an advocate for issues affecting women and families. Brown was pressed by her colleagues to withdraw the resolution, but she refused. After the meeting, Brown acknowledged that many Philadelphia residents would not describe themselves as in favor of abortion rights. But, she said, "It's a democracy."

"When you make it clear that the city cares about pro-choice as a reproductive issue, it sends a powerful message," Brown said. She later added she was "surprised" by the opposition to the proclamation. (H/T - The Philadelphia Inquirer)
This rodeo clown was surprised at the reaction to this idiocy? Is she kidding?

After my fifth brain aneurysm, I was coherent enough to form an (albeit angry) opinion. As of this posting, there have been 174 homicides in Philadelphia this year. 174 dead bodies! Doesn't City Council have more pressing issues than banning trans fats, eliminating smoking in bars and restaurants, and deciding the abortion issue for two million people???!!!

Note to City Council: proclamations like these are the reason Philadelphia is a laughing stock. It is also the reason why more than 150,000 residents fled the city in the last decade. You all should be ashamed of yourselves.
