All Cars Stand By . . .

"All cars stand by. All cars stand by. In the SYLG district, assist the officer, police by radio."

I need a little help, kids. Blogger just inserted a "Flag?" button in the top Navbar. It's Blogger's safety net against "potentially questionable content." Basically, it's CYA for them. I have no problem with the concept, since I don't post anything that people would find objectionable. However, if they put up a "Boring And Pointless" button, I'm screwed!

Anyway, my problem is that I'm anal about my blog. I like everything to be neat and orderly. This new button really messes up my sight lines. The Navbar is longer, and my blog now has scroll margins on the bottom of the page. Powerfully uncool. I know about as much about HTML as I do about women, so I am in "short yellow bus" territory here. I looked over the template in an effort to shorten the Navbar, to no avail. (Remember, I'm a big, dumb guy.) I know that someone out there can help me, and I am on my hands and knees begging. Please help me shorten this damned Navbar, and I will give your site (or you, personally, if you don't have one) the Mother of All Shout-Outs! Thanks!

  1. I doubt you can remove the button alone from the nav bar, but you can certainly get rid of the navbar altogether.

I've tried the instructions given in example one, and it seems to work.

I don't know if this will effect the occassional bursts of hits that you get from visitors clicking through on the navbar.

  2. I noticed absolutely no format changes elsewhere on your blog after the "Flag?" button appeared. Must be a browser-specific thing.

If I had that button in my navbar I'd mess with the code till I killed it, sure. I'd give you advice but I try to keep my path of destruction narrowed to my blog only these days. Everything I have learned about html comes from looking at page source and screwing with it till I made it behave like I wanted. ("Everything I have learned" is very very little, of course!)

Oh yeah- You will still get hits from people who click "Next Blog" if you turn off the navbar. People just won't be able to get to the next blog from here.

  4. Thanks guys!!! I think Pandy was right, it may have been a ond-day-only glitch, because as I check it now, everything is back to normal. The Flag? is still there (which isn't a problemo) but the screen is adjusted. I will whore your sites post haste!!!
