Think He Was Drinking "Busch" Beer?

How difficult do you think it will be to install a breathalyzer-activated ignition on a stock car?

PHOENIX - Kurt Busch was detained on suspicion of drunken driving and cited for reckless driving after a confrontation with police near the track where the NASCAR champion is to race Sunday. Busch was stopped Friday night after trying to avoid another car and running a stop sign about 2 miles from Phoenix International Raceway, said Lt. Paul Chagolla

"As a result of the roadside investigation the deputy did take Mr. Busch into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol," said Chagolla, a Maricopa County sheriff's spokesman. Chagolla said the deputy smelled alcohol on Busch, but the driver refused to perform standard field sobriety tests. Busch did submit to a field breath alcohol test, disclosing the presence of alcohol.

  1. Nah, he was drinking Miller Lite, getting ready for next year...

  2. I must say that with the many drunks who are driving in that area, it is somewhat suspect to me that they managed to snag this particular driver. I know the area well and used to attend some of the trials and races years ago. I am assured that the area has not changed and none of the bars have disappeared.

  3. Rach - Probably. At least he's DEFINITELY out of his contract now. He'll be better off with Penske anyway.

SK - Don't get me wrong; I like Kurt (I just despise Jack Roush). I didn't know about the area, though. There are some cops who salivate at the prospect of stopping a celebrity (I am not one of them) just to give them a hard time. If he was drunk, then he deserves the suspension, but if not, that's a shame.

  4. Wyatt, please don't misunderstand. If he was drunk he deserves whatever he gets and then some. But so do all the other drunks in that neighborhood who never get stopped. I just find it suspect because it is the Sheriff's Dept which never met a news camera it didn't like...even the ones that make the Dept look bad. You know the old adage...the only bad press is no press:)

  5. If it had happened near Charlotte (Lowes) he would have been handed another 6-pack and told to "have a nice day!"

I like Kurt, too. He's a knucklehead, but a great driver.

  6. Gunny - Agreed. They would have at least driven him home. And you're right; he's talented, but a knucklehead. Just like that damned Tony Stewart, who will no doubt win the title this week. Dang.

  7. Hey, Tony's still got a chance to blow it. Anyhoo, I'm in mourning over Bobby's departure to *gag* Petty Enterprises!
