Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

One of the truly great men of American history.

I wonder what Dr. King would think of some of the people who claim to have taken up his fight for equality? Would he really want "ministers" like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton speaking for him? Somehow, I doubt it.

  1. They are the antithesis of all that he stood for... it's disgusting to see them capitolize on his name... much like MLK's widow and remaining family who are more concerned with royalities off of that great man's speeches than recognizing the fact that most of he stood for has manifested itself...

...thanks almost entirely to the great Reverend King...

  2. It is interesting if you read Frederick Douglass' "Narratives...," you will find how much he inspired MLK. Unfortunately, MLK's name and ideas are used in vain to gain celebrity. It is truly rare when a public figure actually tries to follow through on MLK's ideas. All the benefits without any of the blood, sweat, and tears. Even MLK criticized Jesse Jackson for being into "the movement" for his own purposes...guess MLK was on to something.

  4. If King were alive today he'd probably be attacked by the same people pimping his name now.

  6. Peak - Agreed. He's probably rolling around in his grave.

RT - Anytime someone tries to follow his ideals, we are left wondering what is their ulterior motive. And that's a shame.

Mom - Hit it right on the head.

DBS - Absolutely. They'd probably call him an "Uncle Tom."

LMC - Exactly. He would distance himself from the likes of Sharpton, Jackson, et al.

  7. Since Jesse Jackson tried to help the parents of Terri Schiavo...I have a little respect for him.
