A Dark Day

Today, we are mourning the loss of one of our own.

Last night, Philadelphia police officer Gary Skerski and his partner responded to a radio call for a robbery inside a bar at the corner of Adams Avenue and Arrott Street. The call came from a female who was in the restroom as the robbery occurred. The officers approached the bar, and Officer Skerski covered the side door, while his partner covered the front.

The son of a bitch who was robbing the bar was armed with a shotgun, and when the officers pulled up, the patrons heard him say something to the effect of “Watch as I kill this pig.” The scumbag exited the bar by the side door, and immediately shot Officer Skerski at close range in the neck and head. The doer then fled on foot, and is still at large.

Officer Skerski was rushed to Temple University Hospital, but died soon afterwards. He is survived by his wife and two small children.

  1. I heard that they had a bunch of trash gathered up as suspects are were just sorting it into piles before they hang this son of a bitch.

  6. I am so sorry. I saw it on the 5:00 am news this morning and just felt sick. I actually thought of you and a friend's husband who is also a Philly officer. I just feel so sad for his family. Makes the stomach turn and the heart hurt.

  7. I'm praying for the family.
    I'm praying for you cops.

I don't know if PA has joined the rest of the civilized states. But this evil son a bitch needs to die. So I'm praying that he gets right first.

Just remember friend, you are a cop not an executioner. And also remember that this scum will kill you so don't take any chances. If he aint already disarmed, kill him. Philadelphia doesn't need annother dead policeman. Your life is worth more than his.

  10. A very sad day indeed. :(

I hope the shooter gets a bee line express ride through PA's death row. ..better yet just shot on-site in capture.

Please pass along my condolences and prayers for his family, if you know them personally.

  11. I just left that area of the city too, to the peace and quiet of the suburbs.

  12. Hodges: Unfortunately for the Philadelphia police, they don't have a friend in the DA's office.

  16. With all the local news coverage on it still, I just looked up cafe address. geez, I knew it was close to my house in philly, but I didn't realize it was just a matter of FOUR BLOCKS!!! Looking at the map online, now I can visualize the place too, when I've gone down to Wawa occasionally.

I'm still making frequent trips to the old house to work on renovation projects too.. I think the trusty ol' 229 is gonna have to start coming along for the time being.

  17. You guys have had way more than your share of pain and sorrow in the last year. I hope the scumbag is caught and treated with severe predjudice.

Bless you, Wyatt and all your fellow heroes.

  18. This is truly a horrible event, especially for his wife and children. Hopefully, the criminal will pay dearly!

There is one thing that I don't quite understand (especially since I am not in law enforcement). If the officer was covering the side door, why wasn't he in a position to protect himself or at least shield himself from the criminal which would allow the officer to shoot first?

Again, I not criticizing the work of an officer, but I would think that he would have positioned himself to have the upper hand/element of surprise.

    God Bless his family.

  19. Think Ed Asner and Mike Farrell will help pay this guy's legal bills too?

Let's hope he does the honorable thing and bites it by taking a bullet from the swarm of cops that will eventually hunt this guy down.

  20. Thank you, everyone! It's nice to know that some people still appreciate what we do. Some of us were steamed that the reward for this POS' capture started at a measly $5,000. $5,000. For a cop killer.

Thankfully, the reward has been raised since then.

GDKP - From what I know, radio only knew that there was a "report of" a robbery. There was no further information. The patrons said that the toad saw him coming, went to the rear door, and shot him point blank before he could do anything. We don't think he even had time to draw his weapon. As for his positioning, I can't answer that, because I wasn't there.
