Police Kill Iron-Wielding Teen

How long before one of the following happens:
  • The officer (and the entire department) are once again demonized.
  • People come out of the woodwork saying what a terrific, model citizen the victim was.
  • The commish bows to pressure and hangs the officer out to dry.
I give it less than 24 hours.

(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA A teenager believed to have been armed with an iron, was shot and killed by police in the Lawncrest section of Philadelphia Monday afternoon.

Police said the shooting happened when they responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 600 block of Brill Street at about 1:30 p.m. Arriving officers were confronted by 15-year-old Ron Timbers. Investigators said Timbers was believed to have been wielding a steam iron.

"He didn't have a crow bar. He didn't have a knife. He had an iron. They shot and killed someone over an iron," said the victim's aunt.

Authorities said police opened fire on the boy during the confrontation in a second-floor hallway. Timbers was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the chest area and was pronounced dead. (H/T - KYW)

And, if you click out the link, check out the video from Walt Hunter - arguably Philadelphia's most anti-cop reporter. The only thing missing from his "report" was the eerie, evil officer music. Despicable.

Keep an eye on this story.

UPDATE: According to the original 911 call, the mother stated that he son was attacking her with a knife and a hammer. Apparently, when the officers arrived, the son dropped the knife and hammer before reaching for the iron. When the son rushed at the officer, he fired at him, striking him once in the chest. The last time I checked, an iron could cause serious bodily injuries, and according to our Police Directives, the officer had every right to use deadly force.

Oh, by the way, this incident happened only a few blocks from the grocery store robbery/homicide which occurred exactly two months ago. I wrote about it
HERE. The offender in that homicide was just a little older than the one in this case. I mention this because the local media is describing the deceased as a "boy." "Boys" don't come at their parents with knives and hammers, kids.
