So, Field Hockey started on Friday afternoon. Jules, still a sophomore, and a JV captain, played the entire varsity game against Benjamin Rush.
Kyleigh, the goaltender, and Jules are besties. I was at work, but the missus was giving me occasional updates. Rush, scored first, and apparently Kyleigh and Jules were arguing who let the ball get past them. Julia said it was her fault, Kyleigh said the same. This is how they "fight."
Eventually, a senior scored, and shortly afterward a junior popped a goal. Archbishop Ryan 2. Rush 1.
On Saturday, Archbishop Ryan's Cross-Country team traveled to Bristol not too far from Philly. The Mill Street Run is a five kilometer race and there were well over one hundred runners. There are a boy's varsity entry, a girl's entry, and the early one is the one for old people like me.
I wanted to run that race, but it was supposed to rain, and I didn't want to take a chance that I may get hurt.
The good news is Kevin was absolutely amazing.
The race is two laps and it is fairly smooth. At the end of the first lap, I saw he made the first lap in eleven minutes, which is astonishing for him.
I thought to myself, "That has to be a miracle." Could he possibly break his personal best?
So when the race started to end, I ran down the road - on the sidewalk - and saw him running. He seemed like he was going to hurl, but when he got near me, I shouted,
"You gotta go! You gotta go now!" Thankfully, he listened and sprinted like Hell to the finish line and passed quite a few runners.
At last year's Mill Stret Run, Kevin finished with a 24:39. On Saturday, he destroyed that run as he finished with a 21:36. The kid dropped three minutes this year. Amazing. Simply amazing.
And finally, a photo of the team after the race. Kevin is way to the left.
Another photo for the team, thanks for the great photographers at TrackDayPix!
Big thumbs up for both kids!
ReplyDeleteDropping three minutes is amazing. Kevin said at the end of last year that he was going to try to get to Hershey, PA for the important race there. It's difficult, but he's running so well at the moment.
DeleteAlways like to hear the exploits of your kids. Great job and kudos to both.
ReplyDeleteHe didn't believe he would knock out three minutes, but he did it. Amazing.
