The Battlestar Galactica Season Premiere

Best. Show. On. Television.

And tonight's season premiere just solidified that fact.

Feel free to discuss.

Battlestar Galactica Is Back!

The best show on television returns for its final season tonight. You can catch all the action at 10pm (EDT) on the Sci-Fi Channel. Frakkin' A!

Only Five Days Until The BSG Premiere!

Time to break out the Battlestar Galactica Underoos! The new (and final) season begins on Friday, April 4th at 10pm on the Sci-Fi Channel.

It has seemed like an eternity since the end of last season, but thankfully, the creators satisfied my appetite with the mini-series Razor in November. The series is basically televised crack for its highly-addicted fans, and a far cry from the campy 80's series of the same name. Think more Batman Begins instead of the Batman TV series of the 60's. Personally, I think BSG is the best show on television, bar none.

So, set your TiVo, everyone! There will be an exam on the premiere on Saturday morning!

Missing Canoeist Arrested

This guy's last name is Darwin? How ironic!
LONDON, England (CNN) -- A British man who reappeared five years after he was thought to have drowned in a canoeing accident has been arrested on suspicion of fraud, police confirmed Wednesday.

Police, who are trying to piece together the movements of John Darwin over the last five years, have made a public appeal for information over his whereabouts.

The 57-year-old was presumed dead in 2002 after he went missing after going canoeing in the North Sea off the coastal town of Seaton Carew, in northeast England. (H/T - CNN.com)
In my opinion, the arrest is a mere footnote here. The man was missing for five years, presumed dead, and then suddenly reappeared? While this remains a mystery to London Police, I think I have the answer.

John Darwin is a cylon!

Battlestar Galactica: Razor

SYLG will be closed tonight from 9-11pm. Why? Because one of the best shows on television is back, and I'll be watching it over at Casa de Deathlok with my friend Bill and RT. Razor, a two-hour BSG episode, begins at 9pm on the Sci-Fi channel.

UPDATE: Razor was frakkin' awesome! Unfortunately, now we have to wait until March for new episodes. Damn. Oh well, here are some of the highlights of the night:
  • Mrs. Deathlok made hot roast beef sammiches with onions and mushrooms. They were fab! And they went well with the Pomegranate 7-UP.
  • Funny line of the night, part one: At one point during the show, Admiral Cain slapped another female officer during a cylon attack. Bill looked at us and said, "I love her."
  • Funny line of the night part two: A character talked about listening to his conscience, just before he was shot in the pumpkin. Deathlok snorted, "Now his conscience is running out of his head."

There Is No Joy In Mudville

The best show on television will air its final season in 2008.
LOS ANGELES, June 2 (UPI) -- The Sci-Fi Channel's Peabody Award-winning and critically acclaimed series "Battlestar Galactica" is coming to a close.

Although the show's ending was not officially announced until Friday, "Battlestar Galactica's" executive producers, Ron Moore and David Eick, said they began feeling several months ago the show was nearing its end, Zap2it.com reported.

"This is a decision that took some time to arrive at, and like all decisions this large, there were a number of questions we had internally and a creative agenda we wanted to serve. I think we all had to collectively decide when we wanted to be definitive about it. That time is now," Eick says.

Although Sci-Fi reportedly was not exactly thrilled with the idea of giving up the show, Moore said once he and Eick made their case, the network didn't stand in their way. (H/T - UPI)
I wish I knew what to say, but words escape me. It is a dark day for television, because its arguably best series is saying goodbye. On the other hand, it will go out while it is on top - fresh and cutting edge. I have tried to explain the series to people who are not really into sci-fi, and it's difficult at best; impossible at worst. It is so much more than science fiction. It is so much better than the original campy 70's series. It is much better written than 99 percent of the series' out there.

In my opinion, BSG is better than 24, is much better than The Shield, and blows away Prison Break. I urge you to rent a season or two from NetFlix, because my lame description is not doing the show justice. Simply stated, everyone I told about the series (Deathlok, Randal, Rachel) has loved it. Please don't let it leave the air without giving it a chance. Thank you.

Flying Into The Finals

The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Detroit Red Wings tonight to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. This is terrific news in the Earp household, since I despise the Detroit Red Wings. Hockeytown my arse!

The Anaheim victory sets up what I believe will be a terrific matchup between the Ducks and the Ottawa Senators, who eliminated the Buffalo Sabres to reach the finals. Personally, I'm pulling for the Sens - who could bring the Cup back to Canada for the first time in years.

Another plus, Battlestar Galactica hottie Tricia Helfer was recently seen attending some games in Anaheim. Giggity!

Hot Links

Here are a few interesting things from my blog pals:

Captain Den at First In! is only four hits away from #5,000. And in case you haven't been by Denny's place recently, he has hit a few home runs with his Rosie post, his hair band spectacular, and (of course) his trashing of my new SUV. He's a dink, but he's an entertaining dink.

Speaking of milestones, GOP and College earned hit #60,000 recently. Stop by and offer him congratulations for a job . . . done.

Dave from Garfield Ridge writes the greatest post of all time. It entails his two-day trip to the set of Battlestar Galactica. If you're a fanatic of BSG (like myself) or even a casual fan, you should definitely check out this adventure. I, for one, hate him (and it has nothing to do with jealousy).

Tyler D from .45 Caliber Justice has some of the funniest clips from the stupidest Swedish film of all time. Any resemblance to the officer in the clip and yours truly is strictly coincidental.

Pam from Blogmeister USA has terrific news for lacrosse fans everywhere. Of course, this should have happened months ago, but . . .

And, finally, Michael Hodges was lucky enough to appear at the Gathering of Eagles last weekend. He has yet to post about his experiences with the moonbats, but he does post a funny story about a stupid person . . .

Odds And Ends

Here are a few little snippets from my feeble mind:

Listen up! For those of you who think I never say those three little words everyone wants to hear, write down the date and time. I was wrong. Thanks in part to Rachel's nagging - read: she was being a pain in the ass - I finally downloaded Firefox as my new web browser. I both hate and fear change, so this was as big a step as getting Haloscan for my comments. The verdict?

Firefox kicks ass. It was easy to download, easier to tweak, and actually runs a little faster than Internet Explorer. Yeah, I'm an idiot. How did I ever survive without it?

Attention readers! If you are a blogger or some reasonable facsimile and have been kind (and/or insane) enough to link SYLG, I thank you. However, if you have this literary abortion in your sidebar, but there is no reciprocal link from me, please let me know in the comments section. I'll add your site a.s.a.p.

And, finally . . . tonight I would be sitting down to watch Battlestar Galactica. Unfortunately, the cylons at the Sci-Fi Channel moved the kickass series to Sunday nights at 10pm. Damn. In its stead, I'm watching the Calgary Flames crush the Columbus Blue Jackets on TV. Oh well.

BSG: Back On Track

Lucy Lawless as a Cylon? Good choice!

Battlestar Galactica returns with new episodes tonight, gang! Note the new day and time: Sundays at 10pm (Eastern).

When we last left our heroes - and anti-heroes - both the Galactica and the Cylon fleet were orbiting the algae planet. There is a stalemate, because the mythical Eye of Jupiter - allegedly a beacon to Earth - has been found, and both races want it. Adama threatened to nuke the planet - with his son on it - if the Cylons attempted a landing. The final scene showed Cylon heavy raiders enroute as Galactica was arming their nuclear weapons. NICE!

When President Roslin asked Adama what he was doing, he gave one of the greatest lines in the entire series:

"I'm preparing to nuke the planet."

Tonight is gonna be great!

Off We Go, Into The Wild Nude Yonder

I don't know why everyone is always picking on the Air Force. With sergeants like this, the Iraq War would be much more popular!

Air Force Sergeant Michelle Manhart Does Playboy

And is therefore relieved of her duties.

The good looking soldier appears nude in the latest issue of the magazine in a six-page spread in uniform titled 'Tough Love'.

The California native said she hopes that the photo shoot will pave a way into an acting or modeling career. (H/T - Toxic Magazine & OtherKev)

Oh, by the way, for all of you Battlestar Galactica fans, Tricia Helfer (Cylon #6) also appears sans clothes in the issue.

It Ain't Easy Being Green

Sometimes when I shill so much for Battlestar Galactica, Prison Break, and 24, I forget all about my other favorite show: Smallville. For those of you not watching - and Deathlok should not be in that group - here's a clip of this season's newest recurring character: The Green Arrow.

Best. Show. On. Television.

Yep, that would be Battlestar Galactica. Whit all due respect to 24 and Prison Break, BSG is quickly becoming my favorite series. So, why the hell haven't you started watching it?!!! Here's a clip from last Friday's episode. If you're not hooked after this, then you just may be a cylon. Enjoy! (Oh, and if you're a fan and haven't seen this week's episode yet, you may not want to view this. Yeah, Bill, I'm talking to you.)

More YouTube Chocolatey Goodness!

I realize that I am the foremost shill for Battlestar Galactica, but I couldn't help but post this clip from the series' first episode. Check it out and tell me you don't want to see more.

As If You Needed Further Proof

. . . that Battlestar Galactica is a kickass show, Tricia Helfer (the blonde hottie pictured below) was in attendance at last night’s Los Angeles Kings/Anaheim Ducks hockey game. Nice!

The Cylons Are Back!!!

The new season of Battlestar Galactica starts tonight at 9pm on the Sci-Fi Channel. Giddyup!

UPDATE: I just finished watching the season premiere, and as my friend Bill would say, "OH. MY. GOD!!!" Damned good episode. Damned great cliffhanger. Dave has a terrific wrap-up here, but there are a few spoilers, so beware.

Battlestar Galacticsimpsons

I dearly wish more of my readers would watch The Sci-Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica. Not only is it one of the best shows on television, but you would also think that these are the funniest cartoons you have seen in a very long time. This one of Starbuck still has me laughing!

Another One Who "Gets It"

First me, then Dave, Tyler, and now Deathlok. Deathlok - not to be confused with Desslok, the Star Blazers villain - has finally jumped aboard the Battlestar Galactica bandwagon. (If I had the time, Blogs4Boomer would be up by now.) It's about time. Check out his attempts to capture and assimilate every episode.

Or, you can stop by to check out the fabulous picture he has up of Number Six and Boomer.

BSG: Bloody Stinking Good!

Cylons? Yeah, I guess they have some good ideas.

Shift work makes it difficult to immediately post about my favorite television programs. My friend Bill's procrastination in getting cable/satellite makes it even more difficult. Tonight is one of the rare exceptions when I can post within hours after the broadcast - and I'm not waiting on Bill any longer. If Battlestar Galactica is to become a hit with SYLG readers, I need to post about it a helluva lot more often. Hell, maybe I can even beat Dave to the punch.

Spoiler alert! If you haven't seen this week's show, read on at your own risk:

When we last left our heroes, the delicious cylon #6 shot Admiral Cain in the head, cylon Boomer is still preggers with Helo's human/cylon love child, and Adama still hasn't smiled. This week's stellar episode (pun intended) featured a dying President and sabotage by cylon sympathizers.

I won't ruin the episode for those who haven't yet seen it, but I did want to mention the not-so-subtle references in this episode to the controversy surrounding the War on Terror. Cylon sympathizers sabotage the vipers' weapons systems in an attempt to destabilize the military and sue for peace with the "tin cans." When the saboteur is exposed, Adama learns that the "peaceniks" are more numerous than anyone thought. One thing leads to another, and a tylium refinery is destroyed in the name of "peace."

The writers show the dichotomy between the military's "lock them away and/or beat them silly" position and the peace activists' "by any means necessary" mantra. The message, while obvious, was not preachy, which is the last thing I want from BSG. Instead, the episode showed the good and bad of both sides, and ultimately the compassion of (get this) the sitting President. Nice.
