Story Time!

In case you haven't noticed, Part Three of Deathlok's Collaborative Blog Story is up at his place, and I have to admit, it's starting to look pretty damned good.

Old NFO and Snigglefrits have added terrific entries to this literary melting pot, and it is definitely worth your time to check it out.

Seriously, folks. The fact that this story hasn't generated hundreds of hits baffles me. It's that good - and not because I helped contribute.

The Greatest Blog Idea Ever

Once in a while, a blogger has a really terrific original idea for a post. Unfortunately, it rarely ever comes from this blog. In this case, it was presented on my good friend Deathlok's blog, The Temerity of High Maintenance

Here's the premise:

Deathlok started a story. He wrote a paragraph or two to set the scene, then tagged another blogger - in the first case, it was JT. After JT, RT took over, then passed the baton to yours truly. And after I dropped the ball, I tagged Jim.

So far, I think the collaborative effort is really taking off, and personally, I think we have a very good story in the making.

You can judge for yourself by reading Part 1 HERE and part 2 HERE.

bRight And Early Turns Three Today!

Today is the third blogiversary of bRight & Early. If you are one of the hundreds of bloggers who installed his Blogiversary List in your sidebar, you already know him. If not, then you should make his acquaintance, post haste.

Why? Because Jim is good people. Okay, he's a good person, but that doesn't fit the figure of speech. I first met Jim over at Blogs4Bauer, where we both post. Since then, we've e-mailed, read each other's blogs, and competed against each other in fantasy leagues. We get along well, because we usually think alike - as scary as that is - but I would say he is the better blogger. For some unknown reason, I seem to have a larger audience now, but he is the one you all should be reading.

I especially wanted to make mention of Jim's blogiversary because, as Tony Stark said in Iron Man, he's "working on something big." Unfortunately, we can't mention it yet, but it should be ready by the first week of June.

And trust me, the announcement will be huge.

Jim has done a lot for me, and a lot for SYLG. I would like to return the favor by sending him a few new readers. Please stop by his blog today and congratulate him on three year's worth of bloggy goodness. Thanks!

Pimpin' Ain't Easy

Blog pal, and Friend of SYLG, Jim is approaching his 100,000th visitor. I'd appreciate it if you could help speed up the process a tad and pay his blog a visit.

And hey, while you're there, ask him to make you a terrific blog banner like the one he made for me!

Vote For Your Favorite Broad

Oh, come on, I had to write something sexist before throwing out the linkage. Otherwise, how would anyone know it's me?

Two wonderful bloggers and Friends of SYLG - ALa and RT - have been nominated for "Favorite Female Blogger" at WVWV.org. You can vote for your both of these lovely ladies by clicking on the icon at the top of the post, and fill out the handy-dandy form at the site. It'll only take a second, and you'll make two local bloggers very happy.

Well, don't just sit there staring like a bunch of slack-jawed yokels. Go!!!

"Excellent!"

Ambulance Driver granted me a most excellent award this week. Mrs. Grim and RT were also kind enough to bestow the honor upon me, but I was a little lax in posting about it.

Any hoo, the honor is part of the Excellent Blog Awards, and comes with this handy-dandy logo on the left. Kinda cool, although a little dubious for this blog if you ask me. SYLG is probably deserving of an "F for Fair" award, but I don't think anyone has invented that one yet. Heh.

An integral part of the honor is to nominate ten other blogs you deem worthy of the award. You can nominate someone who has already been nominated, and since this award has been through one end of the blogosphere to the other, I may have to double-up. Sorry 'bout that. Here are my ten nominees:
  1. Blonde Sagacity. ALa has probably been nominated for this award three hundred times, but in my opinion, she is one of the best - if not the best - Philadelphia area blogger around. She's smart, she's pretty, and she's opinionated. A lot of liberals hate that.
  2. Big White Hat. Always a "straight shooter," my pal from the Lone Star State keeps things simple: family, God, and country. What more could a person want (or need).
  3. Blogmeister USA. Pam has always been one of my biggest fans. So much so that she helped me land my gig at Family Security Matters - my proudest writing achievement to date. Pam is a much better writer than I will ever be, and I love reading her blog (and her FSM posts, and her American Thinker posts . . .) You get the idea.
  4. Cowboy Blob. I don't know where he finds some of his bizarre photos. I don't know how he is so great at photoshop. I do know that when I really need a laugh, I'm usually going to see the cowboy.
  5. Daisy Dorkelina. The Blogger Formerly Known As Pandy - change your links, people! - is the scariest bitch you'd ever want to meet. And I mean that as a compliment. Her use of sentence enhancers is beyond reproach, and even though she doesn't post as often as I wish she would, she always hits with you with something good . . . like a kick in the groin.
  6. First With Flair. Speaking of people who don't post often enough . . . Sssteve is good people. I know, since he is one of only a handful of bloggers that I have met personally. He'll do anything for ya - except post - and is always there when you need him. I consider Sssteve my friend, so he gets an award.
  7. GOP and College - The smartest blogger from Tennessee since . . . well, ever. GAC is a brilliant writer, and has the quotes in The Weekly Standard to prove it. Besides, I've seen a photo of the College-ette; she's way hot. That has to count for something.
  8. Nobody Move! If John has not been nominated for this award, then shame on all of us. A purveyor of all things criminal, he is my go-to guy for interesting crime tidbits. It also helps that he posts a Babe of the Week every Monday. Sweet!
  9. Peakah's Provocations. Peak is a terrific guy, but he posts even more infrequently than Sssteve. However, he owns lost of guns, so he's not a guy I want to piss off. besides, he won't realize the nomination for about six months anyway. Heh.
  10. The Temerity of High Maintenance. And last, but not least, I want to give a shout out to my close, personal friend Deathlok. He's been sidled with a wrist injury of late, but when it comes to obscure trivia, there's no one better.
Well, there ya go, my ten nominations. Congratulations all, and thank you to those who have been kind enough to honor me.

Oh, and don't forget to stop by Project Mommy, since she was the originator of the award.

Can You Do Me A Favor?

Great Northwest blogger and Friend of SYLG Sssteve (pictured, right) is less than 50 hits away from #20,000. His job demands that he travel the country on business trips - read: nudie bar junkets - and hasn't been able to post for a week or so. However, I thought that we could welcome him home with his long-awaited hit milestone.

Can you please take a moment out of your day and visit First With Flair? I sure would appreciate it, and will build many churches in your honor.

Also - last one, I promise - if you get the chance, please visit Deathlok's blog and wish him a speedy recovery. He recently had wrist surgery, but is still blogging about matters of great importance HERE. Oh, and he's also about 150 hits away from #15,000.

Thanks again! I now return you to SYLG's regular boring blog posts.

UPDATE: Sssteve hit #20,000 today (it was RT). Deathlok is still about 120 away from 15,000. Thanks, everyone!

Today Is Race Day

Leave a message, and I'll get back to you.

In the Earp household, the Daytona 500 is bigger than the Super Bowl - probably because every driver has a shot, instead of the Super Bowl, where the Eagles rarely do.

So, since I will be distracted until about 7pm, and enjoying Kevin's first-ever race, I wanted to let you in on some great stuff from the bloggers in my sidebar. Let's rock!

Sebastian from Snowflakes in Hell gives us the newest "celebrity" to endorse Barack Obama. It'll surprise ya . . . or maybe not.

Insolublog also writes about Obama, and how change for change's sake is not necessarily a good thing.

Captain America from First In! exposes the plight of the lower-upper middle class (read: he and I), and how we're about to get hosed by the city of Philadelphia yet again.

Pam from Blogmeister USA gives us tales from disgruntled conservatives and how we must "settle" for John McCain. Oh, and she published one of my quotes in the article, too. Bonus!

And, finally, B.C., Imperial Torturer, let's us play "Guess Who's Rioting?" at The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler. Don't worry, kids; you won't need to study for this test.

Daytona Update: Jeff Gordon just took his car to the garage area. Son of a bitch! Oh well, it looks like I'm rooting for Junior and Jimmie Johnson now.

Linky-Dinks!

Yours truly celebrated a very rare weekend off. Since Big City Detective is a full-time job where you work crazy shifts, weekends, and holidays, these rare occasions are fully appreciated. I tried to stay away from the dreaded computer on Friday and Saturday - I actually spent time with the family; what a concept - but in staying away from my blog, I also stayed away from yours.

So, I figured I had better dole out the linky love to some blog friends whom I haven't been able to visit as often as I should. What can I say? Irish-Catholic guilt is a beyotch. Enjoy!

Big White Hat is in the running for a kickass new job. Stop by and wish him luck. And ladies, he included a photo . . .

Moe answers the age-old question: "What do cops do during the graveyard shift?" I'll refuse comment on which of these I've done during last out

TrekMedic endorses his candidate for POTUS. Not like there are a lot of good choices.

BobG releases his inner-geek and gives us some items that combine cool with . . . well, cool.

Fitch has a link-fest of his own! And when you're done there, check out his Sunday Retarded Argument. It'll get ya laughin' . . .

And finally, Right Wing Prof gives us an episode of Elderly Cops. Nice to see the ladies still pack a punch.

Check The linkage

Since I have had such a good week as far as visits go, I wanted to share the joy and link some pals from the blogroll. (Not that a link from me means anything, but it's the thought that counts.) Happy surfing!

Molly from Because I Said So has started doing the Weight Watchers thing on her own. Of course, she should have read the rules and regulations first . . .

Dragon Lady from the Dragon's Den has found out that the truth is out there. And it involves - what else? - zombies! Lousy government conspiracies!

USA ADMIRAL over at In A Mad, Mad, Mad World has a harrowing story of a police shooting in Jacksonville. One man is dead. Guess which one?

Stacy from Never Wanted Nothin' More provides us with a stuffed pepper recipe sure to rock your world. I think it's okay if you use lean beef . . .

Uber from PJ Maximum is back (again) and she's posting (again) before she takes another hiatus (again). But before she does, check out the manifesto that ruined her life.

The Jawa Report has a shocking story of a racist magazine. Click over to see which one.

And finally, Vox Poplar over at The MoxArgon Group has some insight from beyond the grave. Spooky doublethink rules!

25,000 Reasons To Visit

Fireman, neighbor, and blogger, Captain America over at First In is quickly approaching his 25,000th hit. He's currently about 30 visits away from the magic number, so why not stop by and bring him a little closer to his goal. He's really stressing out about it - as if suddenly the internet will fail and his Site Meter will forever stand at 24,999. Heh.

The Funniest YouTube Video Ever!

If you think Hitler is funny here . . .

I know I have said this before about lesser videos, but trust me: this one is the goods. And it will definitely start your Monday off right. You can check it out HERE, as Emperor Misha does not take kindly to stealing!

Happy Birthday, Captain America!

Today is Captain America's birthday! (The blogger, not the superhero.)

The Captain is a good neighbor and an even better friend - even when he's trashing my musical tastes. The guy hates The Psychedelic Furs, but loves Queensryche? Eh, what? Anyway, what do you get for the man who has everything? Well, I guess I could get him his Harley Davidson back. (He had to sell it when his kids were born. Wuss.) It's okay, chief, I don't think the blond will mind . . .

Why not stop by and wish him a very happy 60th? Heh.

Fantastic Four!

Local blogger and Friend of SYLG Miriam from Miriam's Ideas is celebrating four years behind the keyboard today. Wow, I wonder if she has carpal tunnel by now? Here's to much success Miriam, and many more years at the craft!

Why not stop by and wish her a happy blogiversary?

P.S. - And while you're surfing, check out Momster's new feature: "What's My Punch Line."

I'm A Blogfather Again!

Longtime commenter and Friend of SYLG Molly (pictured, right) has taken the blogging plunge, and has immediately sampled the Kool-Aid that so many of us have tasted.

And it was good.

After just one day, "Momster" has penned two posts, which is about two more than Captain America pens in a week. HA! The Arizona resident - have fun with John McCain! - is currently working toward her teaching certification, while juggling a family and a career. Um, she also thinks Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs is "hot."

Like most of us, she is learning the blog thing as she goes, so please be patient with her.

I would appreciate if y'all would stop by her blog, Because I Said So, and welcome her into the fold.

Back With Flair!

Or, in Sssteve's case, it should be "Back . . . with hair!" In case you haven't noticed, my good friend Sssteve hasn't posted in about, oh, four months. Work, play, and life in general overwhelmed him for a while there, but he's back with a vengeance today, ready to dazzle us with his snark.

Just in time for the new year, Sssteve posted a few resolutions - one of them being the usual mainstay: to lose weight. In typical Sssteve fashion, he had to drag me into his mess, and has challenged me to a "Weight Off." Sssteve claims he needs to lose about 100 pounds, and while that much weight loss would turn me into the emaciated stick figure I was in high school, I could certainly stand to lose about 50 or so. Thus, I will accept his final challenge - we still have to work out some of the details - because if it gets him motivated, then I want to help.

Of course, we'll post the battle stats on the blog for everyone to enjoy. And by "enjoy," I mean mock. Hell, maybe we can drag some other bloggers into the act, and see who can lose the most weight in six months?

When you get a chance, please stop by HIS BLOG and welcome him back. Oh, and while you're at it, wish him a happy birthday, too!

Get Me 50cc's Of Funny . . . Stat!

The world's funniest blog - A Day in the Life of an Ambulance Driver - is exactly one year old today. You can read his anniversary post HERE. The A.D. is a rare breed: terribly funny - like Jerry Seinfeld, he can not not be funny - wildly popular - close to 300,000 hits in a single year - and yet incredibly humble - he won't admit that a link from his site means a hit-a-lanche to someone else's. Basically, he's Glenn Reynolds without the tremendous ego.

So, since I am nowhere near the writer that he is, I had to swipe a tribute for the momentous occasion. Just replace the name "Ned Flanders" with "Ambulance Driver."
How dare you talk about Ned Flanders like that. He's a wonderful, kind, caring man -- maybe even more so than me. There have been times when I lost patience with him -- even lashed out at him! -- but this man has turned every cheek on his body.

If everyone here were like Ned Flanders, there'd be no need for heaven: we'd already be there.
Happy Blogiversary, A.D.!

20,000 Reasons To Read First In!

My good friend and good neighbor Captain America at First In! is only 16 visitors away from number 20,000! It's pretty amazing, since he celebrated his 10,000th hit in August. His popularity is rising, and it's no wonder - he works hard at his craft.

Why not stop by and congratulate him on the milestone?

Sports Shorts

Today's stat sheet. Click to embiggen.

This is the first time all season that I have posted a stat sheet from our Fantasy Hockey League. There is, of course, a reason for this: my team usually sucks. Recently, through no actions of my own, my players have started scoring like gangbusters.

(I don't even know what that term means, but it sounds good.)

Nevertheless, I have been catapulted from 6th/7th place a few weeks ago, to the near pinnacle of the league. And, since I know that I always cough up a lead - I have only won the championship once in ten-plus years - I wanted to show everyone that Team Wyatt was in Second Place on December 11, 2007.

Now, please excuse me while I plummet to Vincent Antonelli (He's on the sheet as MoDo) territory.

FORE!

It's that time of year, golf fans. It's time to join Peakah's Yahoo! Fantasy Golf League! There were fifty participants in last year's league, and although I finished the season in the top 15, RT finished better that I did.

This will not stand. That broad joins up this year, I'm gonna go medieval on her arse.

You can get all of the sign-up info HERE.

Happy Birthday, RT!

Rod Brind'Amour is celebrating the event.

Today is my good friend RT's 39th birthday. Why not stop by her blog and wish her a happy one? Oh, and while you're there, ask her if this is the first 39th birthday of many. Ha!
